The WNBA playoff picture is coming into sharp focus. The Las Vegas Aces became the second team to clinch a playoff berth this week. The Minnesota Lynx continue their dominant season at 29-7. And Connecticut Sun have been officially eliminated in the East. For Australian fans, Alanna Smith’s Dallas Wings continue to fight for a playoff spot, Georgia Amoore’s Washington Mystics remain in the East race, and the Seattle Storm continue to struggle as the WNBA’s worst team.
Playoff picture — Vegas clinches
The Las Vegas Aces at 24-12 have officially clinched a playoff berth — the second team to do so after Minnesota. The defending WNBA champions continue their steady march toward another postseason. A’ja Wilson remains one of the league’s best players. And Australia’s Stephanie Talbot continues to play meaningful minutes for the champions. Any Vegas game is worth watching.
The Minnesota Lynx at 29-7 (.806 win percentage) have extended their dominance. They’ve been the class of the league all season and remain on pace for one of the best regular seasons in WNBA history. Head coach Cheryl Reeve is building an all-time squad. Napheesa Collier remains the MVP front-runner.
The Golden State Valkyries at 24-9 continue to shine in their inaugural season. An expansion team sitting second in the Western Conference is one of the most improbable stories in professional sports history. They’ve all but clinched a playoff spot themselves.
Eastern Conference — Indiana still leads, Connecticut eliminated
The Indiana Fever at 23-12 lead the East. The New York Liberty at 22-14 sit second. The Atlanta Dream (21-13) and Washington Mystics (20-14) remain firmly in playoff position — both containing Australian players.
Connecticut Sun at 8-25 have officially been eliminated from playoff contention. It’s the second WNBA team to fall out mathematically after Seattle.
The Aussie players — mid-season report
Alanna Smith (Dallas Wings) — Dallas at 20-15 remain firmly in the Western Conference playoff race, sitting fourth in the West. Smith continues to justify her $1.25 million per season contract with consistent contributions on both ends of the floor. Every Dallas game is worth Australian eyes.
Georgia Amoore (Washington Mystics) — Washington at 20-14 sit fourth in the East. Amoore continues to be one of the WNBA’s most impressive rookies of 2026. Her assist numbers and free-throw efficiency have kept the Mystics in the playoff picture. The rookie of the year conversation includes her name.
Isobel Borlase (Atlanta Dream) — Atlanta at 21-13 sit second in the East. Borlase continues to develop in her rookie season on one of the WNBA’s better teams.
Ezi Magbegor and Jade Melbourne (Seattle Storm) — the news continues to be bad. Seattle at 7-30 remain the worst team in the WNBA and long since eliminated from playoff contention. Both players remain committed to the team but the 2026 season has been a genuinely lost year for Seattle. Their combined talent deserves better than the roster around them.
