Week 3 delivered another slate of chaos and undefeated statements. The Baltimore Ravens stunned the Dallas Cowboys with a walk-off field goal in the São Paulo international game. The Minnesota Vikings improved to 3-0 despite starting Carson Wentz. The Las Vegas Raiders emerged as the surprise of the season at 3-0. The Washington Commanders — without an injured Jayden Daniels — upset the Seattle Seahawks. And the Bengals held on in an AFC North scrap with the Steelers. Here’s the state of the NFL for the week ending 27 September 2026.
Ravens walk off Cowboys in Brazil
The NFL’s São Paulo game delivered a genuine thriller. The Baltimore Ravens stunned the Dallas Cowboys with a walk-off field goal after trailing late. Lamar Jackson led the Ravens to their third win of the season and their most impressive of the young year. Dallas drops to 1-2 with real questions about their finishing under Mike McCarthy.
The undefeated teams — Vikings and Raiders
The Minnesota Vikings improved to 3-0 even without Caleb Williams-esque quarterback play — Carson Wentz continues to manage games while the Vikings’ defence carries the weight. Head coach Kevin O’Connell is now firmly in Coach of the Year conversations three weeks in.
The Las Vegas Raiders at 3-0 are the surprise of the season. Kirk Cousins has stabilised the offence, Tre Tucker has emerged as a WR1 (100+ yards receiving in Week 2), and the defence is playing above expectations. Nobody had the Raiders as an AFC West contender in preseason.
Commanders upset Seahawks — without Jayden Daniels
Down their franchise QB after his gruesome elbow injury in Week 2, the Washington Commanders went into Seattle and beat the Seahawks in a genuine Week 3 shock. Seattle welcomed Sam Darnold back but couldn’t put it together offensively. It’s the kind of gritty road result that shifts NFC East narratives.
Other Week 3 storylines
- De’Von Achane injured — the Dolphins RB left early against the Chiefs. Kansas City’s offence found rhythm against Miami’s beat-up defence.
- Bengals vs Steelers — an AFC North grinder. Joe Burrow now 3-0 to open the season.
- Chargers 0-3 pushed the Bills — Buffalo held on but Justin Herbert continues to lack support around him.
- Bears drop to 0-3 — with Caleb Williams still nursing hamstring, Chicago has serious questions early.
- Aaron Rodgers reportedly had one of his best opening quarters in years in Pittsburgh’s game (per Fox Sports).
What Week 3 means
The Ravens look like AFC contenders again. Three wins in three starts with Jackson elevated and the pass rush generating pressure.
The Cowboys are in trouble. 1-2 with a schedule that gets harder. Prescott’s offence is missing something.
The AFC West is genuinely wide open. Chiefs 2-1, Raiders 3-0, Broncos looking strong, Chargers 0-3. Nobody in this division is a lock any more.
