The college football Week 6 2026 results tore up the top of the rankings. Texas, No. 1 since beating Ohio State in mid-September, fell to an unranked Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. Hours later, Georgia won a tense 20-17 battle at Alabama, and the Bulldogs now sit No. 1 in the AP poll for the first time since 2024. Further down, LSU, Oregon, Florida and Pittsburgh all lost to opponents who started the day unranked.

Sooners sink No. 1 Texas

Oklahoma won 27-24 without needing much offence. The Sooners managed just 238 total yards but scored twice without their offence on the field: a blocked punt recovered in the end zone in the second quarter and a 42-yard pick-six from Peyton Bowen that put them up 24-17 with about 10 minutes left. Texas tied it, then missed a 53-yard field goal with under two minutes to go. John Mateer found Isaiah Sategna for gains of 13 and 20 yards on the last drive, and Tate Sandell drilled a 47-yarder as time expired.

Arch Manning threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns but was picked off twice. It was Oklahoma’s first win over a No. 1 side since 2007, and it ended a seven-game Texas winning streak. The Longhorns (4-1) slid to No. 7.

Georgia breaks the Tuscaloosa hoodoo

No. 2 Georgia beat No. 6 Alabama 20-17 for its first regular-season win over the Tide since 2007. Without leading rusher Nate Frazier, the Dawgs still ran for 206 yards, led by Dwight Phillips Jr. (120) and Bo Walker (69). Gunnar Stockton was 18 from 22 for 249 yards and had a hand in both touchdowns, one through the air and one on the ground.

Alabama’s Keelon Russell threw for 185 yards and a touchdown. The finish was messy: a no-call on a possible pass interference, then a JK Bolden sack that pushed Bama out of field-goal range, and a personal foul that let Georgia run out the clock. Georgia (6-0) jumped to No. 1 with 66 of the first-place votes. Remarkably, Alabama held at No. 6 despite the loss.

Upset Saturday: Kentucky, UCLA and South Carolina

Unranked Kentucky beat No. 10 LSU 35-34 in overtime in Lexington, with quarterback Kenny Minchey running in the winning two-point conversion. It was Kentucky’s second top-10 scalp of the year after beating Texas A&M, and the Wildcats jumped straight into the poll at No. 15, their highest ranking since 2022. LSU fell 12 spots to No. 22.

No. 21 UCLA went to Eugene and beat No. 13 Oregon 17-15, controlling the ball for more than 39 minutes. Wayne Knight ran for 103 yards and a touchdown. UCLA (5-0) rose nine spots to No. 12 and Oregon dropped out. South Carolina also won 38-19 at No. 16 Florida, with LaNorris Sellers accounting for five touchdowns, and North Carolina beat No. 25 Pittsburgh 21-17 to hand Bill Belichick his first win over a ranked opponent.

Other storylines

  • Jeremiah Smith scored on his first two touches as Ohio State beat Maryland 45-16; he now has 38 career receiving touchdowns, one off the Big Ten record.
  • Smith has become the odds-on Heisman favourite, with Stockton and Trinidad Chambliss shortening after big wins.
  • Chambliss threw three touchdowns and ran for another as Ole Miss thumped Vanderbilt 52-17.
  • Indiana scraped past Nebraska 20-17 in Lincoln to stay unbeaten and rose to No. 5.
  • Northwestern beat Ball State and entered the poll at No. 25, its first ranking since 2020. Wake Forest also debuted, at No. 21.

What it means

Georgia leads Notre Dame (6-0), Miami (5-0), Ohio State (5-1) and Indiana (6-0) at the top. Ohio State’s only loss came against Texas in September. That head-to-head win still gives the Longhorns a strong CFP case, and they host Florida next.

The next week is loaded. Ohio State visits Indiana, Alabama travels to No. 15 Tennessee and Oklahoma hosts surging Kentucky. Florida, meanwhile, faces a three-game skid if it loses in Austin.
