It was a huge week of October baseball. The MLB Division Series 2026 results gave us a reverse sweep, a straight sweep and two series that both finished 3-1. Cleveland’s comeback against the White Sox was the story of the week, Tampa Bay knocked out the Yankees in three games, and the Dodgers and Brewers both advanced. The Brewers then opened the NLCS on Sunday with a tense 2-1 win.
Guardians come back from the brink
The White Sox won 4-3 in Cleveland on Monday to take a 2-0 lead. Braden Montgomery’s two-run double sparked a three-run sixth and Sean Burke allowed one hit in 5 1/3 innings of relief. Chicago went home needing one win for its first ALCS since 2005, but never got it.
Cleveland won Game 3 9-3 behind Jo Adell’s bases-clearing triple, and seven pitchers combined for 19 strikeouts, a postseason record for a nine-inning game. In Game 4 they trailed 4-3 before a six-run sixth won it 9-5. Patrick Bailey and José Ramírez both homered. Back at Progressive Field for Game 5, Gavin Williams struck out 12 and didn’t allow a hit until two were out in the sixth. Ramírez’s two-run homer was the only scoring in a 2-0 win.
Aussie spotlight: Bazzana in the thick of it
Australia’s own Travis Bazzana, the first Aussie taken first overall in the MLB Draft, played a real part in the comeback. He walked twice and scored twice in Game 3. In Game 4 his RBI double tied the game at 4-4 during the decisive sixth, and in Game 3 he started a double play. Before the series MLB noted that he would be just the second Australian-born position player to appear in the postseason.
Rays sweep the Yankees
Tampa Bay was widely tipped to finish last in the AL East. Instead they won the division, and now they’ve swept New York. In Game 2 the Yankees made four errors, three of them in the first inning, and lost 5-2. Freddy Peralta and Ian Seymour kept them quiet, and Ben Rice’s two solo homers were their only runs. In Game 3 at Yankee Stadium, Victor Mesa Jr.’s two-run homer in the sixth broke a tie and the Rays won 4-3. Bryan Baker saved all three games.
It’s only the third ALCS in Rays history and their first postseason series win since 2020. The only other time the Yankees were swept in a best-of-five series was the 1980 ALCS.
Dodgers and Brewers set up the rematch
Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out a postseason-best 10 over seven innings, and homers from Kiké Hernández and Freddie Freeman gave the Dodgers a 3-1 win in Atlanta in Game 3. Andy Pages’ two-run single in the seventh broke Game 4 open, and Max Muncy homered in a 4-1 series clincher.
San Diego stayed alive in Game 3 with a 4-3 win, thanks to Jake Cronenworth’s go-ahead homer and Michael King’s two-inning save. Milwaukee closed it out 3-1 on Wednesday. Garrett Mitchell tripled and made a big catch at the wall, and Jackson Chourio, 22, became the Brewers’ career leader in postseason RBIs. It was Milwaukee’s first road playoff win since 2018.
