The 2026 World Series has arrived and the Milwaukee Brewers lead the Tampa Bay Rays 2-0. Both opening games were played at American Family Field in Milwaukee, both decided by one run. Game 1 (Friday 23 October) — Brewers 3, Rays 2. Game 2 (Saturday 24 October) — Brewers 5, Rays 4. Milwaukee is two wins from the first World Series title in franchise history. The ALCS wrapped up on Monday 19 October with the Rays beating the Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 to take that series 4-2. Here’s the week in October baseball.
World Series Game 1 — Brewers 3, Rays 2
Jacob Misiorowski got the Game 1 start for Milwaukee and set the tone. The Rays got on the board early, but the Brewers scored three unanswered runs and held on through a tense late-game stretch. Misiorowski and the Milwaukee bullpen kept the Rays at two. William Contreras and Christian Yelich produced key hits. Pete Fairbanks got Milwaukee to the ninth after the Rays had opportunities. Final: Brewers 3, Rays 2. Series: Milwaukee 1-0.
Nick Martinez — the Rays’ ALCS hero against Cleveland — came out of the Game 1 bullpen. Not enough.
World Series Game 2 — Brewers 5, Rays 4
Tighter still. Freddy Peralta on the mound for Milwaukee. The Rays took a late lead; the Brewers answered with a two-run inning in the seventh and held on through a Rays threat in the ninth. Devin Williams closed it. Final: Brewers 5, Rays 4. Series: Milwaukee 2-0.
Milwaukee is now in commanding position. No team has come back from 0-2 in a World Series since 1996. The series moves to Tampa for Games 3, 4 and 5.
ALCS wrap — Rays take it 4-2
Cleveland led 2-1 after Game 3. Tampa won Games 4, 5 and 6 to clinch the pennant:
- Game 4 (Sat 17 Oct) — Rays 7, Guardians 3
- Game 5 (Sun 18 Oct) — Rays 3, Guardians 1
- Game 6 (Mon 19 Oct) — Rays 7, Guardians 3 at Tropicana Field
Nick Martinez was the Rays’ pitching headline. The Rays’ bats finally woke up — all three closing-run games featured heavy Tampa Bay offence. Cleveland’s season ends. Tampa’s unlikely postseason run (over Yankees in the Division Series, then Cleveland in the ALCS) continues.
Milwaukee two wins from history
The Brewers have not won a World Series. They played in 1982 (lost to St Louis). This season — 97 wins, Supporters-of-small-market poster, pitching built around Peralta and Misiorowski, offence driven by Contreras and Yelich — now sits two wins from a first title.
The Rays — also chasing a first title — have been here before. 2008 World Series, lost to Philadelphia. 2020 World Series, lost to Dodgers.

Storylines heading into Game 3
Can Tampa win at home? The Rays went 7-2 at the Trop in the postseason before Game 2. First home game of the Fall Classic Monday night.
Milwaukee’s rotation. If Milwaukee can get a quality start from Game 3, this could get to a 3-0 scenario. If they don’t, Tampa gets back in it.
Freddie Peralta and Misiorowski. Both have been elite in October. Both likely to come back on short rest if the series extends.
